When you think of Prince Edward Island, what comes to mind? Canada’s smallest province is the birthplace of the confederation, home to Anne of Green Gables, host to what appears to be thousands of lighthouses, and the owner of some red sandy beaches. However, the most important thing to know about the royal island is that it is home to some of the best seafood the great north has to offer. You’re guaranteed the freshest fish as PEI’s fishing ports bring in catches year round. Lobster, mussels, and clam chowder are just a few of the many fishy foods you owe it to yourself to try when visiting PEI. Since almost every restaurant on the island serves seafood, we’ve narrowed down a list of the top spots to find some of the finest, most flavorful fish Canada has to offer.

Skip’s Fish N Chips

Skip’s shack is a super casual spot located in Summerside. If you’re feeling fancy, give the clams and scallops a try. However, the fish and chips are truly the stars of the menu at Skip’s. This is a great place to come with friends to share two pieces of fish and chips which are priced at $17.45 or an order of poutine which goes for $6.95. Keep in mind the seating is limited, but just steps away from the shack is the waterfront. If you’re dining out with kids, Skip’s Fish N Chips makes for a great addition to a boardwalk picnic.

Blue Mussel Café

Nestled in the North Rustico Harbour, this café serves up baked lobster, scallops, and steamed blue mussels for $11. Don’t be fooled by the casual atmosphere, the seafood is said to be very high quality and a local favorite. The Blue Mussel Café makes an effort to avoid frying their foods in order to preserve the full flavor of the seafood which is often paired with fresh greens.

Claddagh Oyster House

The Claddagh Oyster House offers local beef seafood and an impressive wine list. This pub, located in a brick heritage building in Charlottetown, offers a giant 25-piece oysters taster for $70 and aged steak sliders for $35. If you’re looking for panache and platters of oysters, this is the place for you.

New Glasgow Lobster Suppers

This restaurant, which is located in New Glasgow, provides the classic P.E.I seafood experience. After ordering your 1 lb. your waiter will tie a bib around your neck. That’s how you know you’re truly in for a treat. At only $35.95 for a full-size lobster, appetizer, salads, and dessert, how could anyone say no?

Daniel Brenan Brickhouse

This Charlottetown joint is slightly more upscale than those previously mentioned. The chef’s choice mussels, which are priced at $13, and the miso salmon are two noteworthy items on the menu. The stylish décor and sophisticated atmosphere make this a great place to take your spouse for a romantic dinner.
